Computing

“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out”
                                                                                                                                                                          Proverbs 25:2

Intent

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary, we are committed to providing a clear and purposeful approach to computing that supports every child’s learning. Our intent is to build confidence, curiosity and skills through a well-structured ict curriculum that reflects the needs of primary learners. We focus on helping children understand how technology works, use it safely and responsibly, and apply it to real-life learning across the curriculum.

Implementation

Our implementation is designed to be practical and progressive, ensuring that knowledge and skills develop step by step as children move through school. Lessons are planned to include a balanced range of experiences, such as using technology to create, communicate and solve problems, alongside teaching key concepts like data handling, algorithms and digital safety. Teachers use age-appropriate resources and activities to support engagement, with clear expectations for what pupils should know and be able to do.

Impact

The impact of our computing approach is seen in children’s growing independence, improved digital literacy and increased enthusiasm for learning. Pupils develop the ability to think critically, collaborate effectively and use technology with purpose. Most importantly, we help children become safe, responsible digital citizens—equipping families with confidence that our computing provision supports learning, wellbeing and long-term readiness for the future.
